Milton Community Picnic – June 2025

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, the Iraqi Canadian Society – Milton hosted a joyful community picnic at the Milton Sports Centre (Picnic Site C). Families from across the area came together to enjoy a beautiful day filled with food, music, and laughter.

The event featured a delicious shared meal, lively background music, and fun games for kids–all of which brought smiles and energy to the gathering. It was a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere where new friendships were made, and community connections were strengthened.

Events like this reflect the heart of the Iraqi Canadian community in Milton — one rooted in hospitality, togetherness, and celebration. Thank you to everyone who attended and helped make this day so special!

Milton Community Fiesta 2024: A Continued Celebration of Culture and Connection

Building on the success of the previous year, the Iraqi Canadian Society’s Milton Chapter proudly hosted its second annual Community Fiesta in 2024 — once again bringing together families and friends for a lively day of food, light music, and fun activities.

The event offered a welcoming space for the community to reconnect and share in the spirit of unity. Tables were filled with homemade dishes, games were set up for the children, and music played softly in the background — creating a laid-back, friendly environment where people could relax, mingle, and enjoy each other’s company.

This gathering reflects the chapter’s continued commitment to creating opportunities for cultural celebration and social connection in Milton. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all who participated and supported this growing tradition. Here’s to many more moments of togetherness in the years ahead!

Milton Hosts First-of-a-Kind Iraqi Community Fiesta 2023

The Iraqi Canadian Society’s Milton Chapter proudly held its first-of-a-kind Community Fiesta — a landmark event that brought together over 165 members of the Iraqi community for a joyful afternoon of food, music, and family fun. 

This inaugural celebration was more than just a gathering — it was a meaningful step toward building stronger community ties in Milton. The event was further honored by the presence of Member of Parliament Adam van Koeverden, who graciously joined the festivities and presented a certificate of appreciation, recognizing the chapter’s role in uniting Iraqis in Milton and nearby areas. 

A special thank you goes to artist Omar Odeh for bringing color and laughter to the children through his creative work, and to everyone who helped make this celebration a warm and welcoming success. The Milton Community Fiesta marks a proud beginning — and we look forward to many more shared moments to come.

Honoring the Legacy of Iraqi Poet Muzaffar al-Nawab: A Cultural Evening Hosted by the Iraqi Canadian Society 2022

The Iraqi Canadian Society proudly hosted a heartfelt cultural evening commemorating the legendary Iraqi poet Muzaffar al-Nawab. The event featured Dr. Saadi al-Hadithi, a longtime friend and fellow artist, who shared touching memories spanning over 60 years alongside al-Nawab. Attendees were also moved by captivating performances from renowned artist Mustafa Alazzawi, who delivered a selection of al-Nawab’s acclaimed sung poetry alongside traditional Iraqi songs. 

The evening drew a large and diverse audience of over 200 members of the Iraqi community from Toronto, Mississauga, Ottawa, London, Hamilton, Milton, and surrounding areas. At the close of the event, Dr. Saadi al-Hadithi was honored by the Iraqi Canadian Society, represented by President Eman Baktash, in recognition of his remarkable artistic contributions and enduring friendship with al-Nawab. 

This memorable gathering marked the second time the society has welcomed Dr. Hadithi to Canada, reflecting the deep cultural ties and commitment to preserving Iraqi heritage within our community. The Iraqi Canadian Society extends heartfelt thanks to all who attended and made this event a resounding success.
