Celebrating Heritage Through Community Action
The Iraqi Canadian Society’s projects and activities celebrate the richness of Iraqi heritage while fostering unity and engagement. Through cultural programs, community initiatives, and inclusive events, we aim to strengthen skills and connections as well as support integration, and create meaningful experiences for all generations.
Stitching Skills, Building Futures: Women’s Sewing Project
As part of its ongoing commitment to community empowerment, the Iraqi Canadian Society – Mississauga launched a women-led sewing skill development project, focused on fostering creativity, confidence, and economic opportunity. This hands-on program brings together Arab women of all ages to learn, practice, and refine sewing techniques in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Held at the welcoming Inanna venue, the sessions provide not only practical instruction in garment construction, stitching, and design, but also a space for meaningful connection. Participants share experiences, exchange cultural knowledge, and build friendships as they develop new skills that can lead to personal fulfillment and future income-generating opportunities.
We are grateful for the enthusiasm and dedication of all who joined this initiative. Supported by the Ontario Government, this project reflects our continued mission to deliver culturally relevant, women-centered programs that nurture independence, creativity, and community growth.
